speaker from UB

May 13th, 2010

Yesterday we spoke to a fourth year teaching degree uni student from university of ballarat. He talked about getting into the course, what to do, and more importantly, not to do. gap years, work, courses, hints and a lot more. i got a little bit out of this speaker because he knew a lot about university and gave a few good hints about what to do to get in, and when you get in, ways to find your way around.

JubnkBots Leggo Game!

November 8th, 2009

Aim of game: to get the recycling robot to the bins, you have to make a path from the Lego to get the robot there, in some levels there is dripping water and you have to make a shelter from the water out of the Lego in order for the robot to not get wet.
Age groups: this game could be for ages 10 and up, because as you work through the levels it gets fairly hard.
Graphics: the graphics are fairly simple so it looks like a factory, and the blocks are all different bright colours so they stand out.
Challenge: how many levels: there are 4 buildings with 15 different levels within them, and you have to finish all of the levels in the first building to unlock the second building.
Educational value: it teaches younger ones the complications of building with the blocks but other than that there is no educational value.
Rating: 5/10 all over, 8/10 for addiction.

Melbourne writers festival! 25-7-2

August 27th, 2009

on the 25th of august 2009 a group of student from hawkesdale college went to melbourne for a writers festival. the writers festival consists of a heap of sessions where writers of books talk to us about their inspiration, why they done it, how long it took, and also inspire us to write in the future.
My day started at 4:30 in the morning and getting to hawkesdale at 6 to catch the mini bus, to head to melboure, it took us approx. 4 hours, and then the sessions strated, at forst we had morris gleitzman, second we went to a session named ‘place in space’ where Scott Westerfeld, and Anthony Eaton spoke about the illistrations in their books, and their favourite writing techniques.
Then third we had a session with Andrew Mcdonald called ‘nerds, blogging and the art of cool’ and he spoke about his book, ‘the greatest blogger in the world’ and blogs, wiki spaces and a lot of other things that are on the internet. to our surprise the third session was the best because all of the students from Hawkesdale had a lot of experience with the internet, wiki spaces, blogs and so on.
A BIG Thankyou to all of the staff involved in the organisation of this event, and the writers who inspired us for the day!
